This paper examined the manifestations of ethnic cleavage and identity on party formation proliferation in Nigeria’s political landscape. Nigeria is unarguably a country with multi-ethnic nationalities each group intermingling another tussle for power. From independence until Fourth Republic, nation’s social structure terms heterogeneity has significantly influenced electoral politics. raises germane concerns as to why parties tilts more towards attachment bereft ideological leanings, unlike what obtainable advanced democracies. historical-descriptive perspective, unfolded bases rise ethnic-based well justified contention that considerations process have contributed instability Nigeria. Moreover, authenticated fact featured prominently early years afterwards, resulting regime displacements ethnicity still foremost determinant contests contemporary Republic. Consequently, recommended, prominently, leaders should avoid actions could heat Nigerian polity up eventually plunge into crisis attendant instability; rather they focus issues will promote integration cohesion among within country.
